Top tips for getting organised in 2020

Top tips for getting organised in 2020It’s hard to believe that we have not only come to the end of 2019, but that we are now breaking in a new decade. For me, 2019 was a great year and business-wise, it was phenomenal. This Business Owl has been kept very busy providing virtual assistance to a wide variety of businesses and individuals! I help with all sorts of business tasks and offer support with overall organisation too. With that in mind, here are some great points to consider when looking at boosting your efficiency in 2020.

Review your 2019

If you want to make your 2020 the most successful and the most organised year yet, you need to review your 2019. Think about and record the way you worked and lived over the previous twelve months and what you found most frustrating. Did you forget meetings or appointments? Did you find yourself running out of food and having to do an emergency shop at the wrong time? Could your work and personal budgets have been better managed? Are you fed up of having a pile of paper on your desk? These are just a few things to consider. Once you identify problem areas you can start to think about better ways to organise yourself.

Write it down

One of the most underrated organisational tools is a pen and notepad. For brainstorming in a notepad or using a diary system to record dates, tasks, deadlines or anything else you need to capture, getting it down on paper makes all the difference. Digital notetaking apps and calendars certainly have their place in the world but consider whether this is another form of digital distraction.

I spend much time as a Virtual Assistant helping to streamline work processes and creating simplified diary and calendar systems that save time and increase productivity.

Work towards balance

One thing that many people will tell you is lacking in their life is balance. This might be work-life balance or it might be balance within their own home or even their mindset. Many clients tell me that they seem to spend their days hurtling around at top speed and having to cram as much into their day as possible. Not only is this unsustainable in the long term but it isn’t a great way to live either. Using your 2019 review (above) and looking at your goals, decide what areas you need to change to encourage more balance in your life. Make sure you prioritise time for yourself too.

Change is good

Without change your business can’t grow and you can’t achieve your personal/home life goals either. Change can be scary but at the end of the day, if you make the changes you’ve identified, your work life can be happier, your home life less stressful and you’ll enjoy a much more organised life.

In summary

As a Virtual Assistant, I help many of my clients with their organisation needs, from diary and e-mail management to setting up admin systems and more.
